Just gave DS back blows!

Breathe, SAC, breathe. DS woke up and fussed a little, so I nursed him back to sleep. Sometimes that makes milk pool in his mouth and every once in a while, he'll cough. NBD. Well, just now he coughed and inhaled simultaneously. There was a high pitched squeak then...nothing. His eyes were huge and watering. His face was red and he was making no sound. I flipped him face down and smacked his back and turned him upright again. He swallowed, started to breathe and proceeded to giggle at the clock (his favorite thing to stare at). While he was giggling, I had to actually tell my heart to start beating again. I have no clue what happened. Probably just milk down the wrong pipe but he's never done all that before. Maybe there was still food in his mouth from dinner? Could that be possible? Should I be checking for that? Moot point because from now on I surely will be. BTW, he's back asleep like nothing ever happened. :)

  • Oh no! How scary! I'm glad he's okay now. I would assume it was just milk going down the wrong pipe...poor kid!

  • We've had that happen before...when he was crying and inhaled milk. You definitely did the right thing!

  • would have totally freaked out! omg! thank god you were right there! the other night LO was asleep in his crib with the monitor on, all of a sudden he started wheezing really hard, I looked at DH he looked at me I ran downstairs and rush open DS's door... he shiffted and the wheezing stopped. I don't know if his chin was down or he buried his face or what but TOTALLY freaked me out! I completely understand why so many people have the video monitor now!

Yikes. Yeah, we had a scare where I didn't hear anything on the monitor but happened to glance at it and DS's fleece sleep sack was up over his face. I'm addicted to the video monitor. My mom laughs at me and says, "it's a wonder you survived." Uhh..yeah it is. LOL

  • this exact thing happened to dd but with water that i accidentally splashed in her face during bathtime. the act of me snatching her up out of the tub got her breathing again, but i freaked! we`re very lucky because dh is a firefighter-emt so i called him and he talked me through how to make sure she was alright. fwiw, i do check her mouth after meals; i think it`s the blw book that recommends it. you would not believe how often i find chunks of stuff squirreled away! i open my mouth real wide [so that she`ll eventually mimic it] and then run my finger under her tongue and between her gum&cheek on both sides. [sorry for such a mega-long response!]
