Do people REALLY remember when they were 5 and younger, if their parents yelled? I know, personally, my frame of reference starts around age 5. And around age 5, I'm finding, is when the yelling subsides considerably.
at any rate, my parents didn't yell, per se. My dad would get drunk and yell, randomly. My mom hardly raised her voice as to not anger my father, send him in a drunken rage and him beat her/my younger sister.
my mom was a yeller and so am I. As teenagers my older kids were soooo much better than I was but as toddlers they got into so much crap....literally and figuratively. Like the time Josh tried to flush Britt down the toilet

I'M GRAPE JELLY- ALWAYS AROUND & ALWAYS THE SAME
If I leave here tomorrow, would you still remember me. For I must be traveling on now. Because there are too many places I've got to see. -Allen Collins & Ronnie VanZant
My favorite verse!
No, my parents never yelled. Not at me, not at each other. My goal was always not to disturb the silence of our house--hence my always impeccable behavior as a child.
I was definitely 'better behaved" than my child is; but my child is a happier child than I was.

Yelling was the least of my problems growing up.
Good point. And I hope so because I don't remember my mom yelling a lot and I think I was pretty good and would never pull some of the crap my ds does.
And...do you think your kids are better behaved than you were as a kid or worse?
This question is ridiculous...its assuming that EVERY kid has the exact same personality and will react the EXACT same way.
I was yelled at...and my perception (which I'm sure isn't entirely true) I was yelled at more than my brother and sister....and my perception (which may or may not be true) is I was a difficult child...who knows what parts are true or not.
I do flip out at my kids...and different from Jodi...I do it more now AFTER 5 than before 5. I could excuse the toddler behaviour due to age....but now when my kids misbehave it drives me nuts.
My kids - one is great, the other is a PITA but getting better. I yell after 20minutes of trying to get a child to cooperate, usually when running late and in the midst of PMS. DH yells occasionally for the same reasons. We're both working on it.
I guess I'm speaking from my experience then that I think I was a better kid than ds is right now (but Jodi makes a good point that maybe I don't remember)...but I would have never pulled some of the crap he does. Maybe my mom was just more strict but not necessarily a yeller.
Yes, they yelled (& spanked a lot) & my oldest bro was a brat, the other 4 of us were darn near angels as kids. So I think my kids are better behaved than my brother & worse that the rest of us.
Sometimes, but they weren't big yellers. My dad yelled a little more than my mom...but I remember kind of laughing it off. I think yelling is bad, but I think it is harder on some kids than others. Maybe depending on temperment? My oldest is only three...we were probably similarly behaved at age three, although I developed some behavior issues later on. DD is a good kid!
Re: S/o Did your parents yell?
These questions are not applicable.

Mom no, Dad had a short temper.
3 of us were good kids. 2 of us were horrid.
