Babies: 6 - 9 Months

I was just on

the June 2011 board and there was a post about fake drinking, and seeing as how the thought never crossed my mind I thought I would ask if this is a regular thing and Im a wierdo for not having heard of it, or if they are the wierdos

Re: I was just on

  • Considering C was a month early..... I might hop over to May a couple of times. hmmmm I wonder if that will affect care for this one?

  • When I was on the 1st tri board a lot of girls posted stuff like that.  It's mainly so that you can hide the pregnancy news until you're ready to share.  Some people drink when around their friends or fam & don't want people to start asking questions if they don't have a drink.  The most common reason given is "I'm on meds & can't have alcohol".

  • I did it at 2 weddings before we were ready to tell people.   In our circle of friends and with my family - they are always watching to see who is and is not drinking to determine if you are KTFU and haven't told anyone.  Craaaaaaaazy.

I never really understood the lying aspect of it. I get that people don't want to say "HEY!!! I'M 4 WEEKS PREGNANT!" But if your friends are THAT nosy that you can't simply say "You know, I really don't feel too hot and don't feel like drinking." then I think it's time for new friends?

My friends never questioned it. I just refused the drink, got Sprite (or a Mocktail, just to feel cool) instead and I never got teased or questioned.

  • Yah, I did this. I got my BFP on the biggest day in our little town... The fair was in town and we had a parade that day. All my friends and husbands always mix a bunch of bloody marys and walk down to watch the parade and then we go to the fair and drink all day (obviously pre-chilren). I just mixed my nonalcoholic bloody and had DH run to the store to get me some lemonade. So the rest of the day I drank "vodka" and lemonades...Stick out tongue

  • My friends and I used to always go to happy hour and I am not one to just not drink. I have had a few virgin margaritas and I have to say they were nasty

For me it was just so people wouldn't ask questions. I never lied... But I also never told anyone we were trying until after we got PG either.

I didn't do it, that's for sure ^_^.  We didn't share the news w/ anyone until we hit 2nd tri (well, other than our parents).  But, everyone knew we were trying & that I wasn't drinking just in case!
