Head shaking (like he's saying no)

Does anyone's toddler shake their head no at random times? Like, just be sitting on the floor with a toy and then start shaking their head from side to side?

  • LO does a one sided shoulder shrug when he gets upset or doesn't want to do something.

  • DS sometimes shakes his head no for no reason.  He also says the word no for no reason.

    It's normal.

I'm not worried if it's normal. The pedi said it was. I'm just curious to know if anyone knows why? Sometimes I'll shake my head no and he will do it back.

It's not like he's constantly shaking like he has tourettes.

That's called imitation.  It's what babies and toddlers do.

Obviously it's imitation when I do it and he does it back. I'm wondering why he does it randomly.

Sigh.  It can still be imitation even if he doesn't do it immediately after you.

Maybe the toy was wasn't doing what it was supposed to do so he told him no.  Kids and their imaginations
