Babies: 6 - 9 Months

honey nut cheerios

They say no honey until age 1, but is it ok for baby to have cooked things with honey in them?

Re: honey nut cheerios

  • I hope so, Lo eats them all the time.
    Effing crazy people.

  • I did not even think about that. Yeah, my LO has been known to eat them as well.
  • I normally just give DD plain cheerios, but the baby sitters husband was giving her honey nut cheerios but I didn't feel comfortable saying anything. I have a wonderful FREE babysitter.
  • Lurking from 3-6 (it's so slow over there!), but what about the "nut" part?  Is that OK?  I haven't started solids yet, so I have no idea...
  • I have read in different sources that you should not give children under 1 honey nut cheerios.  Here is some info and I pasted below the paragraph that stuck out to me. https://pediatrics.about.com/od/weeklyquestion/a/04_infant_honey.htm

Although parents often know not to give their infants under twelve months of age plain honey, they often overlook other foods that contain honey in them, such as Honey Graham Crackers, Honey Nut Cheerios, Honey Wheat Bread, etc. Although the honey in these foods may be processed, it may not be pasteurized, and so may still contain botulism spores in them and should be avoided. If you feel strongly about giving these foods to your infant, call the manufacturer to make sure that they are safe.
