ETA: Well, I mean they don't need them out of necessity...but a baby needs a passport if you're traveling out of the country with them.

In Canada, yes. And I think in the states you do as well.

Yes - we are going to London next week and we had to go to the National Passport agency to get her's expedited.

We are heading to germany so we got DS his, its so cute! Remember u need his birth cert and both parents have to be there when you apply

Yes, you will need to prove LO's citizenship, so you can get a passport, or now they have passport cards for border crossing, too...

Sorry for all the questions - I'm confused by their website.

So in order to get a passport, do I physically go to one of their passport centers and apply? I have to bring DH too I think, right? What do I bring?

We went to the Post Office. They have the forms. Bring LO's Birth Certificate, or a certified copy, as they will take it and mail it back to you, your DH and his ID, your ID, and your checkbook, to write 2 separate checks, one to the PO (or other facility), and the other to passport people. If you bring cash, you can buy a money order from the post office, but they don't take credit cards for it.

You may need to call and make an appointment. Our post office has this service, but I have been there when they turn people away for not having an appointment. I'd hate for you to get everything together and go up there and be turned away. Good luck!

BTW make sure the baby's dad is with you for the appointment.  My friend tried to get one for her son and did not realize she would need her husband since he is a minor.
