Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Question about BLW

I haven't given it much thought really, since Liam LOVES his purees, and I only feed him homemade baby foods.

However, I brought him to work since it's my last day, and I can't really search the interwebs at my leisure, so my question is - for babies that love purees, is there a point to try BLW while I am still cycling through new things for him to try?

Re: Question about BLW

  • BLW is great for texture exploring and learning how to use their hands to feed. That is what they don't get from eating the purees. I get a lot of compliments about how well Z eats and his eating habits. The kid eats Tofu for crying out lound and most adults won't even it eat, his parents included.

  • We've just started introducing solids and I let E feed herself the purees using this by Sassy: https://assets1.mytrainsite.com/501035/30010_6o.jpg (I put food on the spoon and hand it to her)

I also give her chunks of apple and banana to play with and explore textures.

To me the most important thing is that she's controlling the feeding session - I don't feed her if she doesn't want it and she puts it in her mouth herself. And I don't only give her purees - that way she can learn the different textures of food.

Also, I only give her single ingredient purees; considering that I give her stage 2 (so she gets used to lumps from day one) there aren't many options that are single ingredient. I think this is important so she can learn to differentiate the flavors from each food.

To summarize I kind of do a hybrid of traditional feeding and baby-led. But it's what works for us. Hope that helps!
