Cloth Diapering

About to order.. Does this sound like enough?

Ok so I decided to go the prefold with cover route simply because it is the cheapest way to go, and I won't be working, so it wont be very time consuming (not like it is anyways)

I want to do Wash every 3 days so heres what Im going to order:

36-Infant Prefolds (12 changes per day x3)

27- Regular Prefolds ( 9 changes per day x3)

6-8 Flip Diaper covers

6-8 Snappis

Does this sound about right?  Also how many Snappis do I need.  I have a cat that tends to steal things like that.  Also.. is there much difference between Indian and Chinese prefolds, and premium over regular?  Should I also get insert for when he grows out the regular size (30lbs).  The cover is supposed to fit to 35lbs...

Sorry So many questions, I just want to get it right the first time!!

  • If you're going to use the PFs from birth, I would suggest getting some newborn/small sized covers. The Flips will be quite huge on a newborn and probably leak out the leg.

ETA - Also, do you have wetbags and/or pail liners? cloth wipes? CD safe diaper cream? (good to have on hand just incase you need it).

You might also want to get or make some fleece liners because those are always good to throw in there for a stay-dry feel and for when diaper cream is needed. When LO is bigger, you might want to consider some doublers too, though when they're little they're being changed so often that you won't really have to worry.

  • we got some (4) thirsties XS newborn covers.  Newborns are really tiny!
  • You may not need that many snappis. I ordered two and only ever used one, I actually lost the second one for a while so I guess I only needed one. Also, it personal preference but what you like may change as your babe grows. I thought prefolds were best when mine was tiny but as she got bigger I really prefered pocket diapers, I tried a little bit of everything before spending a lot on a big stash and I'm glad I did because the diapers I thought I would like the least ended up being the ones we love and use the most.
