I actually cannot put her to bed without swaddling her. I've tried to lay her down on her stomach, her side, her back, and it wakes her up every time -- seems like her arms or head dangle between getting her from my arms to the bed. And I try to pat her and shhh her, but she just gets pissed, and then we have to go through the whole routine again. Whereas swaddled, she will mostly stay asleep. Is there a technique to this? I feel like an idiot! But she's outgrowing her swaddles, and I'm starting to think she doesn't like being swaddled all night long (very squirmy and seems frustrated that she can't move).
Thoughts/ideas/suggestions?
Re: Still swaddling, and don't know how to stop
We stopped swaddling cold turkey at 5 1/2 months. Everytime I would swaddle him he would get very frustrated and squirm around and whine, so he was ready for it. I was so nervous to do it too, but it wasn't bad at all. He sttn as he normally would.
Maybe you can try just putting her in a sleep sack and see how she handles that or you can always start by not swaddling her arms and then keep making the swaddle looser and losser every night. GL!
We stopped cold turkey as well at 5 1/2 months. She kept breaking out and was waking up at night so we could reswaddle.
It did take her a bit to get used to her arms being free and gaining control over them. I always rocked her in rocking chair, then when she was asleep, I layed her in her crib, but I stayed there holding her hands down until she was settled. It seemed to help her.
Now she's like yeah, um could you bust a move outta here, girlfriend's trying to get some sleep.... I just put her in her crib and out the door I go.
I really did think she would be swaddled forever! lol!
