I am curious. I think what I really want to know is if there is a certain age where letting them sleep in their crib will lead to problems with security etc when switching to a toddler or regular bed? DD still loves her crib, and I am spoiled by knowing she is confined. She tried to climb out once about 4 months ago, but has not tried it since. I just wonder if we "have" to change over to a bed at a certain age, even if she is not climbing out?
Re: How old is too old to sleep in a crib?
The triplets are 38 months and still in their cribs. Allie is 23 months and still in her crib as well. All 4 of them regularly sleep just fine in toddler or full sized beds at the IL's house. We just like confinement too
I don't think there's any right or wrong answer to that one.

I don't think you have to move her now....if she's happy and not trying to climb out, then I don't see any reason to move her. If you keep her in a crib until she's 4 or 5 though I might give you some weird looks
If Noah hadn't climbed out when he did or never tried I think 3 would have been my cut off for being too old for a crib.
Ahhh. You just made me feel so much better. When I read the other post, I had never felt a need to take the crib away from DD. She is secure there, and likes it. It made me feel like I was doing her a disservice by not moving her earlier than I need to. Thanks for telling me how it went for Nora. I just don't want to take that security away right now with all of the changes going on in DD's life. I am happy knowing your transition went smoothly.
This is exactly how it went for us, too. Justin was 3 years and 1 month old. He never complained, never climbed out. He's been great in his big kid bed from the word go and we have no night roaming or early morning wakeups as a result of being in it. He's done great.
Tyler Anthony arrived on 9.21.09

I'm not planning on transitioning Henry until we absolutely need to which will be about 6 months after Serena arrives because that is when she will go into the crib.
He is a climber but the crib is sacred to him I think, he stays in there and loves it.
DD is 2 1/2 years old, and still very happy in her crib. She never tries to climb out, so we're not going to transition her until she shows us signs that it's necessary.
LO #2 will be in the PNP or co-sleeper for the first few months in our room, so we will assess the situation of beds when the time comes.
