Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Is he getting too much?

So, I stopped BFing last week at around 6 1/2 months. We went from EBF to FF. Anyway, he eats way more formula than he did BM. Basically he went from around 24 oz. BM to 32 oz. of formula (and he cold eat more). And he's eating 2 tubs of stage 2 foods a day (7.5 oz total). I really want to cut back from 6 to 5 bottles a day because he can eat 6 oz. at a time now but I'm just not sure what to do. He's not a big baby, between 16 and 17 lbs. Any thoughts? Similar experiences?

  • It doesn't sound like too much to me. He might be going thru a spurt. If you want to cut back bottle amount, up the Oz/bottle.

We went thru a stage where we had two 6oz, and three 8oz feedings. Now we are at five 8oz feedings/day.?

  • It doesn't seem like too much to me either. DS drinks anywhere from 24-32 ounces of formula every day and he weighs 17 lbs. He also eats two tubs of stage 1 foods and we will move to stage 2 as soon as he gets over this hellish teething hump he has hit.

  • BM is more filling and digests slower than formula. That would be why he's eating more formula.

There's definitely a growth spurt possibility, but I wouldn't force him down a bottle at this point. If you start giving him bigger bottles, he'll adjust his eating schedule to reflect.
