    We'll see.

  • I am an RN, but work in Nursing Informatics. I plan on taking 12 weeks, but am secretly hoping to find PT work elsewhere.

  • I'm an anesthesiologist. I plan on working right up to my due date (if possible), and I'll take 8 weeks.
  • I do Marketing/Communications for a non-profit organization. I plan to take 12-16 weeks.
  • I work for a plastic surgeon.  We are a small office with one doctor.  I was originally hired as a surgical assistant which I loved doing, and then slowly transitioned to doing a bit of everything.  Then I got promoted and became the office manager which was nice for the extra pay, but assisting in surgeries was way more fun so I keep myself doing that once a week.  I'm not sure how long I'll be able to keep doing it though because I always lean against the OR bed with my belly for some leverage, but I've noticed my belly is starting to get more in the way and it's uncomfortable...

Since our company is so small, I don't qualify for FMLA.  I'm the first one ever to work for my boss that's gotten pregnant, so I have no idea what to expect.  Sometimes he's totally cool and gives us what we ask for with things like this, and other times he's very much a bottom-line thinker.  If the business is losing anything, then it's not ok...  We'll see.  I plan on talking to him about it in about a month or so.  I'm going to ask for 12 weeks off, and I'm sure he'll give that to me, I just don't know how much of that time he'll pay me for.

  • I am a graphic designer at an independent school...

I'll be taking the full year off. In Canada, we get 55% of our wage for the 52 weeks if we choose. It will take some juggling with our household finances to do this, but I can't imagine not taking that time if there's a way to afford it.

  • I am a 7th grade social studies teacher.  I plan on taking off the rest of the school year.  Hopefully it will work out that way!
  • I work in sales and will be taking the full 12 weeks off, and maybe some vacation days also.
  • I work at a middle school and I plan on taking my 6 weeks leave which would be about the end of the school year and then the summer and return in August when school resumes. However, I am also secretly planning on not coming back and finding something part time : )
  • I work in Human Resources at a local hospital. I get paid leave for 6-8 weeks through our short-term disability plan and 12 week unpaid under FMLA. I plan on taking the whole 12 weeks. (I also plan on becoming a SAHM if we can swing it financially but my work doesn't know about that one yet!)

  • I work for a Department of Defense Contractor and while I can take up to 12 weeks I'll only get paid for 6. Thinking I'll make it an even 8 weeks.

  • I work in the travel business, which everyone always says is fun but I never get to go anywhere fun other than an occational convention which is not fun. I don't get any paid leave so I am saving my vacation/sick days like a miser to cover about half of the 6 weeks I am taking off. I totally fear going into labor while I am at work so I am praying it starts on a night or weekend.

  • fun!

I'm a Senior Director of Corporate Finance...I plan to take 12 weeks, especially since it's not our busy season. I can plan out the work for my staff during those 3 months easily and still be on track.

  • I'm a Licensed Massage Therapist and i run my own practice. I will be closing the practice after the baby is born and will be a SAHM. I am looking forward to that, but I will be teaching continuing education classes at a local junior college on the weekends just to stay in the MT loop.
  • I'm a nutrition counselor for a personalized delivery service to help people lose weight.  I'm taking 12 weeks..wish it was going to be longer.

    English professor/writer/editor...

I'm taking all of spring term off b/c it's the most fair to the college and other professors. I'm using my sick leave to get full pay during that time period. So, YAY! My maternity leave starts a MONTH before my due date and on my 34th birthday. Kick-ass!

I don't technically have to come back until September 26th, but I think for $$$ reasons I'll have to teach two six-week summer classes. I'm going to beg to do them online. And I hope, hope, hope to finish my second book I'm under contract for during my time off.

  • I am a first grade teacher and I am not planning on going back to work. So thankful for my hubby!
  • I work as a part-time EMS/Fire/Police Dispatcher and 911 operator.  I have been part-time since my children were born four years ago.  It is an amazing job and I love the hours.  As for maternity leave, probably about 2-3 months.
  • I work FT in the NICU at a major hospital in Boston.  I'm also a part time masters student to become a pediatric nurse practitioner.  I get 3 months off of work.
  • Market Research in the Restaurant/Hospitality industry. We get 8 weeks off, but I'll be cashing in some stock options to pay for the other 4 weeks I'm planning to take off, so our finances don't take a major hit.

I love my job, but I have a feeling it's going to be very hard to return.

  • I'm a teacher, I plan on leaving 4/1 and I'll return in September. This baby was well timed so I will get the benefits of having the summer off too. I'm only going back to work in September if my plan to become an overnight bazillionaire doesn't work out though.

  • I'm an accountant, and live in Canada as well - so will be taking my full year off.  As someone else said, it will definitely require some juggling of finances since my total pay for the year will be less than 50% of what I normally make....but I am so thankful for the year.

  • I'm a special education teacher for grades 4 and 5. Our school year ends at the end of May so I plan on taking all the summer and then until Sept 15th, so roughly 4.5 months. Looking forward to it!

  • Brand Marketing Manager for a legal company and MBA grad student starting in Jan.  I think I get 8 weeks, which I will take. Thankfully, there won't be any summer classes to take.
  • I am a drug and alcohol counselor and I work in a juvenile treatment center.

I plan on being out from April- September and I think my H might take the paid family leave for 2 weeks to be with us.

  • I am a special events manager and own my own wedding planning company.  I will take about 12 weeks off with the hope of booking enough weddings to only work on weekends

  • I am the Director of Conference Services & Catering for a 4 diamond Resort.  I plan on taking 12 weeks off, which will bring me right into my slow season.  I am hoping to work something out where I can work from home 1 or 2 days a week after that till the end of September.  Then we start to get really busy.  I have to meet with the HR department, but I think I will have 6 weeks paid (not sure the precentage) and then 6 weeks with out pay.  I wish I did not love my job so much.  I would consider staying home for 6 months to a year.
