How much are you budgeting for the 1st Birthday party?-edited with working link

I am trying to recreate this party for their birthday, but the more I plan, the more crazy expensive I think it's going to be.

https://ellebelleblog.blogspot.com/2010/08/one-year-old-in-flash-first-birthday.html

I'm just annoyed with myself because when I first saw this theme, I got all excited and totally told a bunch of people that we were going to do this, but now it's a little overwhelming.

How much do you think is too much to spend? Right now we're looking at $500 or so and that's just ridiculous!

  • I'm doing a Winter Onederland party for Katie and I just did the budget this morning. It's a party for about 20 people, in our home, and with me doing all the cooking and getting crafty. I'm looking at spending about $150 to $200 for everything (not including her gift).

  • I'm spending $35 renting our Condo's cabana, about $75 on food and my husband and I will cook it, and about $50 on decorations but that is only because of the balloons. I was able to get all of the plates, table cloths, etc on clearance so I spent all of $12 on them. Our party is for about 20 people and it's running like our usual family get togethers so it's simple but still fun.

  • $50.

I'm taking him to Build-a-Bear and to get his haircut. Then we'll have cake. I plan on buying some balloons for our apartment.

No party. Family is 800 miles away and we'll be seeing them for Christmas.

  • We didn't really budget, just tried to save money where we could. With everything from invites and thank you notes and postage to food and drinks and DS's gifts and decorations and cake, etc. etc., we spent $585. The party was for about 20 people plus us.

  • Well, if you think $500 is ridiculous, I won't even bother mentioning how much this party is costing us. I feel better by reminding myself we're injecting much needed $$ into the local economy Wink.

Hopefully just this amount.  But we have family here so we're just going to do a small supper at our house.  Basically the only extra cost will be the ingredients for her cake and the extras for supper.  The cost may go up to $80 or something like that if you include her gift.

  • I can't see anything- your link doesnt link to anything- so I wish I could see what you are wanting to do.

I will be happy if I can get DD's party done for around $1000. The food will be around $200 and the cake is $225 then there is party decorations, gifts, alcohol, party favors, invitations, table and linen rentals, and entertainment ( I think we are doing a bounce house)   This is for about 40 people in my home.

  • We're having his party at our local Gymboree.  It costs $275 for 90 minutes and we are only allowed to bring cake.  I'm really not sure how much the cake will costs since I have not researched yet, but I'm thinking $100-150.  Total before the gift $425...will probably round out to be $500.

Ha-ha! That is a good way to rationalize it. :) The party is going to be for about 35 people in our home. I really want to hire a photographer to take pics of everyone (it explains what she did in the blog post-which should work now). The photographer that we used to do pro-pics of the boys said that she'd charge $300 to come for 2 hours and give us a dvd of all the pics. Then with food, invites, decor, etc, we'd probably be closer to six or seven hundred. I just fell in love with this idea because DH is really into photography and when you think of the first year, everyone's always says how it goes by so fast, so "first year in a flash" just seemed so perfect. Now I'm thinking that winter one-derland could be just as cute.

*sigh* I love throwing parties and I haven't gone all out for a party in quite awhile. Should I just go for it??? :)

  • This doesn't answer your question, but I love that party theme!!!  I'm saving it for year 2!

I don't think $500 is too much for that type of party with a photographer and such.

Can I come to your LO's birthday party?  It sounds fantastic.  I'm sure your DD and my DS will get along famously. Smile

I really like the theme- and I think you could do it on a budget. A lot of that suff can be bought in bulk- check out candy warehouse and save on crafts- both online. Also myownlabels.com- can do a lot of labels, and stickers for pretty cheap- and they are so cute! I have used them for my wedding and other parties I have done they do a great job.

I love that idea!  I say go for it. As long as the bills are paid, and you and DH are both on board, who gives a flying salami how much it costs. We are all about big parties and just having fun.

I really, really, really wish i had booked a photog for DD's bday. That would have really gotten peoples' tongues wagging! But our budget got seriously out of control--we're not having it in our home because it is waaay too small. Our place is cramped with the 3 of us and the dog and I couldn't jusify the added expense.

  • About $100 for food (just doing cake, ice cream, drinks) and probably $50 for decorations. It's just going to be at our house during the afternoon (not mealtime) and there will be about 30 people.

  • I don't have a budget, I've just been buying stuff over the past month or so. I would guess $200-$300 for stictly party stuff (supplies, decorations, invites, goody bags, food & beverage). I think we will have about 20 people attending, including kids.

I lucked out and got most of the decorations/favors at the Dollar store or at Target's dollar spot. For food we are doing pulled pork and we happen to already have 2 pork roasts in the freezer. My friend is also letting me borrow her bouncy house so we are saving $$ there.

Not included in the budget is the money we will be speding on getting the house and playroom fixed up. Probably another $500 right there.

  • I've havent set a budget yet, but I'm guessing it will run us about 500-600 for what I want to do. WIth food, custom invites, a custom cakes and custom favors, and then all the decor, it really adds up! So no, I dont think 500 is unreasonale. They only have birthdays once a year, and I like to make them really speical!
