Babies: 9 - 12 Months

What do you expect in childcare?

So I am starting up my own dayhome (It is just like a babysitter really) So anyways I have a lady coming for an interview tomorrow and I am panicking to get everything clean and ready. What do you all expect when you go look at babysitters, dayhomes, daycare?

I have organized all the closets that the kids will use, put cubbys together, and took out all the adult movies and put kids movies and games in there place.

What should I make sure I get done today? Help

  • What about creating a schedule of activities / crafts / games that you will plan for the day / week.  **I used to work in a centre, and whether you actually do all the things on your schedule depends on the kids of course...but it looks good, and having an agenda will appeal to parents!**

You could plan weekly themes -- colours, animals, letters etc.....

  • I have created a parent handbook to give to the parents during the interview. It says a little bit about us, what your child will be doing eachday etc

Great!  Will you be providing meals / snacks?  You could outline that, and a menu plan....

Don't forget a "sick child" policy for the parents that will try to bring in their sick child, or who will be pissed if they have to come early to pick up....

Ummm.....still trying to think, but it sounds like you are super organized at it is :-)

  • Is it too personal to ask what you'll charge?  If it is just ignore this post Embarrassed

Its not to personal lol. I will be chargeing $500 a month for 101 or more hours a month and $325 a month for 100 or less hours. The average in my town is $700 full time!

  • The only thing I want to add is if the parent brings the child with for the interview interact with the child. When we were looking for daycare we interviewed about 15 people/places, and only one of them asked to hold ds. Needless to say that is who we choose. I wanted to see he they interact with each other.

Yup I will be providing meals, and I already have meals, and sick children policies in the parent handbook. Big Smile

Thank you that is great advice! I had the same issues, the reason I am doing the dayhome was because I could not find child care that I liked enough to leave my baby with!

  • Are you becomming licensed? I would imagine that the state would give you requirements and you could get a lot of ideas from it.
