Preemies

back from first u/s :)

Everything looks great!  :)

My 2nd temp spike was apparently my o-date, so that pushes my due date to June 18th, which means I am 6w5d.

The h/b was 146 bpm.  Baby is 1 cm long (!) and everything appears normal.  My cerclage is still in tact and my cervix is long and 4 cm (best news yet)...

I got my blood drawn and she had a hard time.  I could tell she was irritated b/c I was somewhat dehydrated. Embarrassed Oops.  I need to drink more but honestly I just don't stop and drink when I"m chasing Andrew around so now I'll have to make a point.

We talked about what's to come.  Starting at 16 weeks, I'll get weekly P17 progesterone shots.  I can have someone do them at home (not happening) or just stop by the office.  They said it only takes a second, so I can bring Andrew, so that is a huge logistical relief.

Starting around 13 (?) weeks I will need ultrasounds every other week to measure cervical length.  Since I already have a TAC, unfortunately, the doctor questioned the benefit of these (they've already pulled out all the stops) - but we agreed it is beneficial because I can adjust my activity level and restrictions accordingly if my cervix is getting too short too fast.  I also pointed out I thought my MFM wanted the data for his research, and I am more than happy to oblige if it will help some other mother in the future.

As far as activity level, while generally patients can carry on fairly normally with the TAC, he said we have to play it week by week.  I asked about prenatal yoga (last time I started at 12 weeks when my back started to hurt) and he said we'd have to see :/ I will be on travel restriction, possible pelvic rest, possible resting periods throughout the day (hopefully not bed rest...ugh) but again everything will be discussed appointment-to-appointment.  We'll take it week by week.

In the mean time, he said for first tri I am treated as a "normal" patient with no restrictions, so I don't need to go back for 4 weeks, but once 2nd tri is here, all the appointments will start!

Thanks again for your thoughts and prayers.

  • Great news! Wishing you a very long pregnancy with no bedrest!

Do you mind telling me more about your TAC? I had IC and pPROM with my first pregnancy and am just starting to try to figure out if/how/when TTC again. Why did you have a TAC? When are they done relative to TTC?  And anything else you want to add in. Thanks!

Sure!  Why don't you send me an email?  Kathy marie 81 at gmail dot com

I had the TAC placed before getting pregnant.  The advantage, in my  mind, was that it could be done laparoscopically (experimental procedure for my doctor, one of the top in the country) and minimize some of the risks I wasn't keen on that you  might endure if you had it done during pregnancy (like infection, risk of m/c, etc.)  Obviously having laparoscopic surgery (perfectly normal in about 4 days) was a huge plus too, since I have a toddler (instead of a traditional c-section).

I choose the TAC over the TVC after meeting with my MFM and weighing the risks and benefits.  I starting dilating at 23 weeks, and I *really* don't want to go through that again, and told next time I would likely dilate sooner.  It was worth it to me to have a major surgery to increase my chances of a term pregnancy.

Anyways, feel free to email me!

  • What great news!!!! Just take it day by day and we'll keep our fingers crossed for a long and healthy pregnancy!

  • Glad the appt. went well!

I just wanted to chime in that my (very non-medical) husband did my 17P shots and it was totally fine.  I felt like I was bringing my DD to the doctor enough (between routine appts, and cervical ultrasounds) and even though they said it would be "quick" I have experienced 20 minute waits just to get blood drawn or a quick shot.  So I let the nurse teach my husband.

In the end it became very routine.  I will say that I did IVF with my first baby so shots aren't a huge fear of mine.  But there really isn't anything to a quick IM shot once per week :).

    GL!
