  • 13lb preemie? Oh no ma'am. How would you like to hear your preemie you're taking home from the hospital will start wearing 3-6 months clothes?

I was told 3 weeks early was term but I guess things have changed since I had Connor.

my DH had to go get other clothes, cuz none of the ones i packed fit.   they had a hard time with finding stuff to fit him.  we were in newborn diapers for a week..

  • My friend has diabetes, they had to deliver her 10 lbs girl 3 weeks early.  Her baby looked huge compared to all the little babies in the NICU.
  • I can't see the video, but 3 weeks early would be 37 weeks which is considered full term. Did they say anything about the mom having GD or the EDD being calculated wrong?

  • The video mentions that mom has Type 2 diabetes so that contributed to the size.  I really hope for her sake that was not a vaginal birth.  OUCH!

And 37 week is term - my LO was born at 36 weeks and is technically a preemie but when I see what other parents face with premature babies I have a really hard time saying my kiddo was premature even if he meets the definition and we spent a couple of days in NICU.

  • Honestly, I think the news is calling this baby a "preemie" to get more coverage.  He was delivered at 37 weeks because the mother has diabetes and the baby was measuring very large.  They did an amnio to make sure the lungs were developed.  So...3 weeks before due date but still technically full-term.

That being said, I can't imagine.  Even though she had a c-section, like I said last night, having a c-section with a baby that large is no picnic, folks.  Elijah (my DS2) was 11 pounds, 10 ounces (and I didn't have GD!).  They had to vacuum him out because he was so packed in there.  They pushed and pulled for 45 minutes before calling the NICU staff and vacuuming him. I can't imagine how hard that section would have been if he was a whole pound larger.  Jeebus.

  • don't believe EVERYTHING the news reports...the baby was actually 3.5 weeks early.  It's a friend of mine and I heard all of what the doctors were saying before and after delivery.  He is a preemie.
