Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Travel Question from 3-6

We're booking tickets for a trip to Las Vegas next year when DS will be 10 months and we don't know if we should get him a seat on the plane.  I'm leaning towards getting him his own seat but DH is concerned that I'll end up holding him on my lap the whole time anyway.  What would you recommend?

Re: Travel Question from 3-6

  • If you gate check the car seat and ask as check-in if there are any empty seats you'll be allowed to use the carseat in the empty seat without having paid for it.  It's a risk, if there isn't an empty seat you just gate check your seat but if there is then you get to use it.  They rearrange seating so you are beside the empty seat.

  • We just took a trip, 6 hours.  We took two planes one way each trip.  The first plane was full, the second wasn't.  He wasn't always on my lap when we had a spare seat.  Depending on how long the flight is and if you change planes would decide if i bought a seat.  One plane for more than four hours, i would say yes you could use more space.   If the plane is full you will not have much space for your little one.

  • If you have the extra seat I don't think you'll end up holding your LO the whole time. That being said I'd have a hard time paying for an extra seat we didn't need. The last time we flew there were only two seats on each side of the aisle and the arm chair moved up, so DS could have easily sat between DH and I.
