How do you put LO to sleep when away from home?

We're leaving for a trip soon, and I'm getting nervous about how to put DS to sleep when we're away. We've travelled a lot with him already, but I always nursed or rocked him to sleep....neither of which he'll do anymore.

I decided to do a trial nap in the PNP to see how well he does. I set it up in his room with all of his usual surroundings...normally he puts himself to sleep quickly and quietly, but he's fighting it for going on 30 minutes. Ugh. I have a terrible feeling that this trip (and our Thanksgiving and Christmas trips) is going to be an enormous disaster.

How do you put your LO down when away from home?

  • We try to stick to the same routine as if we were home at the same time as her usual bedtime. GL!

  • I try to do the same routine we do at home (bath, books, bed), and I make sure she has the same "stuff" that she would have at home. She sleeps with a stuffed dolphin that contains a sounds machine (like a sleep sheep), so we always bring that and the blanket she sleeps with. It does usually take her a little longer to fall asleep, but it really hasn't been too bad.

  • Evan is use to his stroller so when we are away from home we put him in there with his bottle & he falls asleep & then when he's asleep we'll switch him over to the bed. We've dont this twice, both Vegas trips.

  • done* this twice.

  • He sleeps in the PNP.  He has the same blankets and pads that are in his crib. We put his lullaby cd on the Ipod that  has a speaker, so he still has that. We put him to sleep by just soothing him and rubbing his hair. It's the same routine he has at home. Sometimes he has to get good and tired before he goes to sleep. Our last trip to the beach he did just fine.

  • We just took at 15 day trip.  DS had to sleep in PNP.  I have to add he hates PNP.  The trip was long with lack of sleep from DS and me.  I even tried to have him sleep in it before we left to prepare him, that was a fail too.  He sleeps in PNP at daycare for naps, i thought that would help.  I made best with the trip and when he woke up i ended up using the bottle to put him to sleep.  He drank more on the trip, except in the end he wouldn't take bottle and would just want to be rocked to sleep.  I know each baby is different so i wish you luck.  Just do what you need to do to make the trip work for you and your family.  Also, it took a couple days when we got back for him to sleep in his crib and take naps at daycare.  Things are back to normal now.  GOOD LUCK>>.
