When was your DS pt?

My older ds (who is now almost 5) would pee in the potty since 2 yrs old...poop was a different story. We were not totally diaper free until he was 3 yrs and 4 months old.

DS2 NO INTEREST WHATSOEVER! He is refusing to even try to pee in the potty..I believe the more I force it, the more he will resist.

But the kicker is this: he always go with her older brother to watch him potty b/c he thinks its cool.

He told me the other day that he would pee pee on the potty when he is 3..which is in January and at this point, I may hold him to it!

When was your DS potty trained? any tips? or should I just wait until he is totally ready?

Oh, and all the other kids in his class are still in diapers too...so maybe I am just being pressured by my mom about the pt thing.

Re: When was your DS pt?

  • IMO potty training is not something that you should push. Average age for boys is 3-3.5. DS1 was fully trained by 3 years and 4ish months. DS2 will be 3 in January and the only thing we're doing right now is putting him on the potty at certain times (before bed, before bath, etc.) just to get him comfortable with it. They will do it when they're ready, and if you try to push it too soon, they will resist, or could end up having a ton of accidents. Don't stress it - it'll happen eventually! :)

  • ds has been back and forth for 6 months now.  it is so annoying!  when his sister got it, she got it.. she was done.  she didn't want to wet herself.  I swear he doesn't mind being wet.  he's 3 and a month.  he can do it which makes it all that much more frustrating.

I'd back off.  he says he'll do it when he turns three.  so maybe for his 3rd bday take him to pick out big boy undies.  let him try to go when he's chooses to for now. maybe tell big brother to encourage him... let him show him how to do it (you stay out of the room, just outside).

  • DS will be 4 in December. He's still running the other way when we mention the potty.

  • Kevin was just after 3 y.o.
  • James PT'd himself at 26 months. He just wanted to wear underwear one day and that was it. He has only had a few accidents since then. I know I lucked out with him and I am sure DS#2 will be in diapers forever. I say try it once he is 3 since that seems to be what he wants to do and see what happens.
  • DS was 2y9m when he was PT. He trained with most of his other daycare class. Don't ask about nighttime training though. Still working on that.

I'd say for your DS, I would wait it out. He said when he is 3 he will do it. Sounds reasonable to me.

  • Eric was ready and partially PT'd at 20 months.  However, I had Kyle when Eric was 21 months so I didn't pursue it because I couldn't handle PT accidents and a newborn baby :)  He wasn't interested again until about 28 months and then it was pretty easy to PT him in a few days.  Kyle PT'd at just shy of 2.5 yrs old.  We just went with the approach of "no more diapers and hang out naked" until they got the hang of it.

  • He was 2.5 when we started but to fully trained it was closer to 2.75.

He will still have the occasional accident.  He is 3 years and 1 month.

  • DS1 at 2 yrs 8mo and DS2 at 2 yrs 6 mo. DS2 got pee first and took a couple weeks to get poop, though, and DS1 did both at the same time. I'd try at 3 with your DS, but I wouldn't push it if he's not interested.

  • Pee trained at 3, that wasn't too difficult, but poop trained at 4.  He still has poop issues because of constipation, but he hasn't worn a pull-up since he turned 4.
  • TB will be 3 in February, and he will do both on the potty, but won't tell us when he needs to go.  He obviously can hold it because he has NO accidents at school, where they only keep him in undies.  But, he had two accidents at home last night, one while playing on ML's bed, which leaked down to his bed underneath.  Awesome.

I don't know when he'll be fully trained.  I'm hoping before this baby comes.
