Projectile vomit and three pajama changes for DS and me, too!

Ooooh what a long night! I picked up our DS from daycare after work around 5:15 PM and he was happy as could be crawling straight for me. Everything was as normal.

Then when we got home I noticed he didn't want his Puffs like he normally does? When his bedtime bath time came around I was undressing him and he shot out vomit (like the Exorcist) straight out into the air on to me. Just a little. Ewww it was awful! This was a first for us. We got him straight into the tub and got everyone and everything cleaned up. DS cried in the tub - just not happy. We got him out and got him into some clean pj's and sat down in his rocking chair to offer his bed time bottle and he refused it. I called the pedi and they said there was a tummy bug going around. They said if he didn't want to eat then to not push it as it will only come right back up. His tummy needs a rest. If he's tired - let him sleep and if he wakes up only offer him pedialyte (however you spell it) or water (DS NEVER will take Pedialyte) but only a teaspoon at a time and only if it's been at least two hours since he got sick as his tummy needs a rest.

I took him back to his room and just rocked him. He fell asleep and then again LARGE volume of VOMIT AGAIN. All over me! All over him! All over the carpet! Ewwwww it was so bad! DH and I took him in the bath room and sat him on the bathroom rug and rubbed his back trying to comfort him. He continued to get sick. I didn't notice how much vomit was on my shirt until while looking down at him while I was undressing him the smell started to creep up and I started to realize all the vomit that was all over me and DS and DH and I started to GAG heavily in our tiny bathroom. Luckily DH took over so I could take the saturated shirt and bra off and throw it away!!!! His poor cheeks turned to red and white blotches and he just sat there so tired and cried. It was sooooo HEARTBREAKING! There was nothing I could do but let it happen. We bathed him, dried him off, put him in pj #2 for the night and rocked him again.

He fell asleep and then threw up again!!!! This time not so much. It was really scary for me and I am sure for DS, too. :( I got him back on the bath rug and he continued to get sick but it was just a little so I think he was starting to dry heave and finally finished. We rubbed his back and gave him kisses and tried to comfort him. We got him back in the tub and cleaned him up - he was completely asleep in the tub; just exhausted. Got him dried off and into clean pj #3 for the night and PRAISE GOD he was done. I rocked him for awhile and finally he had fallen into a deep exhausted sleep while DH ran across the street to the grocery to buy Pedialye and Gatorade (in case we get it next).

Just heartbreaking for a Mom and Dad. DH did awsome! He was so there for me and DS and was so comforting to DS while I changed my clothes and cleaned up all the carpets and got the washing machine going with yucky clothes.

DS slept all night and when he woke up he only took an ounce of Pedialyte (how ever you spell) but sucked down 7 ounces of his formula and played and danced and laughed. I pray he is better and this bug is gone. No fever all night or this morning.

Poor poor baby. I hope he's OK and all this is over. Pedi says it's vomit first and then diarrhea that's sometimes accompanied with a low grade fever. ::Deep sighs:: I hope he's alright. Nothing worse than a tired sick baby - especially when he's yours.

  • Your poor DS :(  You are right when you said he must have been so scared not knowing what was going on.  It sounds like you made him as comfortable as you could and I'm sure he was so comforted by you and your DH.  Hopefully it was only a 24 hour bug.

  • Poor little guy!  I hope it was just a 24 hour thing too and I hope you and DH don't get it!
  • The same thing happened to us last night! Except yours sounds a little more worse than ours.  DS woke up crying in vomit all over himself and his crib.  After we bathed him and got him and everything all cleaned up and changed he threw up again but not so much then he fell back alseep and woke up fine this morning.  He kept his bottle down so I am hoping he is over the vomiting part!  It is so hard to see them sick and feel helpless.  Hope your LO feels better :)
  • DD had a bug, too. She had diarrhea for 5 days. She only vomited once, though. I took her to the pedi on day 2 and he told me to give her pedialyte in a syringe (3cc at a time) or diluted gatorade, and apple sauce. She is finally getting better, but it was a tough week. Hope yours go away faster than that. Hang in there.
  • your story is EXACTLY what happened in my house last night. LO seems okay today but boy it was a long night...and a whole lot of laundry...
