I have heard many mom friends say they are starting to wean their LO from Forumula (or BM) by cutting the formula to half and replacing it with milk so it is half and half. Anyone doing this? Most mom's seem to have started around 10 months. My pedi never mentioned this so I wanted to see if anyone is doing this or just going cold turkey at 12 months. If you are doing it, could you tell me when you are starting/started and how you are doing it? How do you make sure they are getting enough nutrients? (I'm a little worried about getting him to eat enough foods to get all of the nutrients he needs. I love that about forumla!)
Re: Who has started weaning LO from Formula?
We are starting the formula weaning this Saturday. Pedi said once DS turns a year old he will no longer need to be on formula and will have solids (baby food or table food) and then cows milk with the liquid vitamins in it.
So this Saturday will be 2 weeks before DS turns 1 year old. DS takes 8 ounces so we will start out with 2 ounces organic cow's milk mixed with 6 ounces of formula. 3 days later we will go up to 4 ounces organic cow's milk mixed with 4 ounces of formula. Again, 3 days later 6 ounces organic cow's milk mixed with 2 ounces formula and then finally 3 days later offer a full 8 ounce sippy cup of organic cow's milk.
Reason why you have to wean them from formula to milk is that breast milk and formula is full of sweet sugar flavoring and milk is not sweet at all. So you gradually transition to cow's milk until they don't even notice the difference.
