is it like having 2 babies? i am thinking it will be. we had to put our 14 yr old german shepherd to sleep this week
and it has been hard on us and the house is too quiet. Dh says it is up to me as to when we can adopt another dog.....just wondering if anyone has added a new "family" member since having their LO......pros? cons?
(i was originally thinking in the spring, but i don't think we will be waiting that long).
Re: has anyone adopted a puppy since having their LO?
Aww, I am so sorry! We have a German Shephard too. Hes only 2 though, so still kind of has a puppy mentality. He's been really good with the baby.
I dont think having another puppy would be like having two babies neccesarily...Max was really easy to house break and train.
I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. How devastating that must be for you. Losing an animal that you've had for so long is like losing a family member. You feel a great sense of loss and know your house isn't the same without them.
I have an elderly, lactose intolerant, uppity cat that I have had for 13 years. DH hates her and the only reason she has a stay of execution is because she is mine. If I were to lose Aggie I don't know that I would bring in another fur baby. Our lives are super busy right now and Aggie works with our family because she is old and knows where her box is, what's off limits, what's ok, etc.
Give your heart time to heal and then take P to pick out a new fur baby.
We haven't adopted a puppy since our daughter was born, but I wanted to tell you how sorry I am about your dog. I know how hard that is, and I totally get what you mean about the housing being too quiet.
My brother's family got a lab puppy when my nephew was about 1. I don't really know how difficult it was for them and that's been years now so I'm sure they don't really remember. My nephew and that dog became the best of friends, though. The dog used to follow him around and kind of check-up on him. It was really cute. So, I know adopting a puppy with a toddler can be done and done successfully. I just don't know how difficult it is.
