Babies: 9 - 12 Months

new OBGYN?

I moved to the area when I was pregnant and picked my OBGYN because I wanted a practice that had all women, and as a bonus, their office is in the hospital where I want to deliver. When I was in labor with my daughter, the doctor was awsome. However, with each visit, I got a lecture about this or that or they made me feel stupid. And it was totally impersonal. Toward the end of the pregnancy I was there once a week and even twice a week for the last two weeks. And yet, the nurses and receptionist acted like we've never met. I know they are a big, busy practice, but I was there often. I'm pregnant again, and I'm weighing the pros and cons of keeping them as my doctor. Right now I'm thinking that being knowledgeable and in the right location is more important that having a kind, personable doctor. What do you think?

Re: new OBGYN?

  • Yes & no... I also attended a large practice, and saw 8 different doctors. Most of them were great. They were both knowledgeable and friendly, and greeted me by name after a while without even seeing my chart. However, there were 2 doctors there that I HATED. They were knowledgeable, but cold. Completely impersonal. I had severe bleeding at 13 weeks, and when I went in, the one doctor literally was like "well, sounds like a miscarriage. Happens all the time." It wound up being that I had just overexerted myself at work, but seriously? If I had actually been losing the baby, it would not have been something that I wanted treated like it was no big deal.

I'm considering not going back to the same practice just because of those two doctors. By the end of my pregnancy, I was terrified that one of these two that I hated so much would wind up being the one on call the day I went into labor. I lucked into delivering with my favorite doctor, but I don't want that stress again next time.
