If your DC has asthma.....

If your DC takes a controller medication for asthma, would you share what they take and if you have experienced any side effects?  My DS didn't need any medication all summer, but now he is back to needing it.  He takes Pulmicort (generic) and unfortunately, it makes him feel like he needs to pee all the time.  He'll sometimes be fine, but othertimes make several trips to the bathroom in a matter of 30 min or so.  Its frustrating for him and for us to see him struggle with it.  We see our specialist in a couple weeks and I will ask if there is something else we could try.  Until then, I thought I'd ask here if anyone has had a good experience with a particular controller med.

  • We've used Pulmicort as a controller med and my DD didn't have any side effects from it.

I did a quick google search because I have never heard of peeing more as a side effect from the med and I couldn't find it anywhere. Are you sure the two are related?

  • My son is on Pulmicort for maintenance for his RAD. He has never had any side affects from it. He has had both the name brand and the generic.

Yes, I'm 100% certain.  He's been on and off the med multiple times and this always happens.  It shows up within a day of starting the med.

  • DS is on Singulaire (sp?) It does wonders for him

  • This isn't an answer to your question (I don't have one) but an interesting study was just completed that shows that bitter foods help ease breathing during an asthma attack.  I had a horrible attack two days ago.  I drank some strong black coffee and sure enough it helped.
Thought I would pass this info along.  I hate the idea of kids having a hard time breathing.  While coffee isn't a good choice for kids there are lots of other bitter foods out there that may help.

    Sorry to hijack your post.

  • My oldest DD has been on a Pulkicort inhaler & occasional neb for 2.5 years. She has never had any side effects from it.
  • DS2 has been on pulmicort (and genetic) for over two years (he has not been officially diagnosed with asthma yet). I have not noticed any side effects...
