My contractor cursed at me!!

He was calling me to get my credit card # for the final payment. This was for our finished basement. Anyway, I told him I wasn't giving him the final payment until all paperwork is submitted to the township, since it's the law. He said he won't take the credit card & that I have to pay him with a check. He then started yelling at me saying that was "bull**it" and that he wanted his "f***ing" money. I was beside myself. He said his guys did a bang up job and I yelled back yeah now (after they had to redo it). Then he hung up on me. I called the township to ask them if I should pay them now and they said absolutely not since all the paperwork isn't completed and I won't get the CO. Dh was furious when he found out. But we were told not to say anything just in case he goes psycho on us. The thing that gets me was that he was so nice to us in the beginning. All I want is an apology. What do you all think? thanks

  • Loading the player...
  • I've somewhat followed your basement drama....I'd be violent by now.

Definitely don't pay, and I'd be documenting all this.

    What is a CO?

Certificate of occupancy. In case we ever want to sell the house.

  • In that case no, I would not pay him.  I would also be contacting the BBB (if  you haven't already).

Can you please explain what a "township" is?   Would that be like me calling city hall?

  • Oh.  Hell.  No.

Document everything.  My ILs have been in battle with their builder for over a year now.  Same kind of stuff.

  • Sorry ,I'm referring to the construction department (where you have to submit permits) in the township we live in.
