bleeding nipple...advice?

So LO bit me yesterday aftenoon while nursing. I bled from the bite.  I nursed him last night and he bit the same spot again.  I finished nursing him and it hurt some but not too terribly bad.  Nursed him this morning at 5 am and 9 am and it really didn't hurt.  It was just a little tender.  Went to nurse him this afternoon and it hurt terribly!  It felt like the skin was being ripped open again.  So my thought was then that I should pump and feed him that.  So I tried to pump and it hurt terribly and I started bleeding again.  I know I have enough milk for him but my concern is that I could lose my milk if I don't pump.  Any thoughts or advice.  I really want to continue to BF him but this is super painful.

  • Ouch! Lots of lanolin. I've also heard dipping the nipple in saltwater can promote healing.

  • I have no ideas for you. I have had a cracked and bleeding nipple for months now.  It hurts so freaking bad all the time.  I ended up getting mastitis last month.   Keep it as clean as possible and make sure to clean after you nurse, the salt water will help with that.  I have heard a nipple shield may help the pain when you nurse.  DD has 6 teeth and when she latches down it about makes me pass out so I only pump on that side.    Aquaphor has helped some too.
