carseat experts

DH was just in a wreck with DS.  He was at a stop sign and was rear ended.  It was low impact and there is just a small dent in the bumper.  I asked the officer if the carseat needed to be replaced and he basically blew me off.  Does the seat need to be replaced?  Thanks.

Re: carseat experts

  • Loading the player...
  • Not an expert by any stretch of the imagination... but in most cases, the person at fault's insurance should pay for a new (identical) carseat if there is any damage to either vehicle.  Did your DH exchange info with the other driver?

Hope your DH and DS are ok :)

  • Jetta's link it what I would check too.  Also, check your seat's manufacturer too. They will have information about the potential need to replace.

ETA: And since you didn't mention injuries, I am going to assume that your DH and DS are okay. (((hugs))) since that's scary, though!

  • Every manufacture besides Britax (sunshine kids depends on what manual came with your seat or who you talk to) says after any crash the seat must be replaced. Britax is the only one to go by the link above. If your unsure you can call the manufacture of your seat and ask what they say.
  • Definitely check with your manufacturer. ExH was in an accident, rear ended, but the kids weren't in the car. I called the manufacturer and they said that they always recommend that the seats be replaced and even sent me a letter to submit with the insurance claim.
