Whats the rule of bleaching?

Also when you put the diapers in the pail do you shake out the insert or do you do it in the wash? I'm shaking out the inserts but Im wondering if im creating an extra step?

  • I looked on the Cottonbabies site recently, and apparently bleaching every so often is okay.  Last week, we just put a 1/4 cup of bleach in with the inserts, because they were a little stinky after washing.  I won't do it often, but I felt okay about it since I read it on their site.

  • Oh, and did you mean do I take out the insert when I put the diaper in the pail?  I do, just because I don't really want to have to touch each diaper again after they've been in the pail and aren't smelling very nice.  I don't know that it matters; it's more of a grossness issue for me.

  • I have used bleach twice and they are fine. If they are seeming stinky I use vinegar. I pull the inserts out as I put them in the wash but I never really thought about it until now.

  • I have only bleached the inserts, but I never tried on the covers because I fear they will fade.  I think I have used bleach twice in the 1.5 years I have been CDing.  When I need to strip diapers (every 4 months), I use RLR.  Inserts and covers are fine to RLR strip together.   It works wonders and has saved me the need to bleach often.  It's great on colored bath towels too.

I shake them out into the diaper pail.  I don't like messing with them after they have sat in the pail for awhile.  Ick!
