Does the comma belong in this sentence (between illness and or)?  Thanks!

 

XXX is a local non-profit organization whose purpose is to assist families and individuals residing in the XXX School District by providing food during times of illness, or job loss on a temporary basis.

 

It looks wrong to me but IDK.

You didn't ask about this, but the phrase "on a temporary basis" is confusing. If you mean it to modify job loss, then I would reword it to say "temporary job loss." If you mean it to modify it to say "providing, on a temporary basis, food during times of illness or job loss."
