Vent: my co-workers are constantly spending $

Don't get my wrong - I like the people I work with BUT there's one big issue I have with them: they spend way too much money on stupid stuff. All. The. Time.

For example, they're always going downstairs to our building cafe to get breakfast, a bunch of them always go eat out for lunch (or will order food in) and they're constantly passing around Jewelry, Avon, candle catalogs and will give you major side-eye if you don't order something.

I'm not a cheapskate by any means, but DH and I are on a budget, don't eat out much anymore, and I'm not one to drop $$$ on stuff from parties that I don't need. Now one lady is coming around trying to get people to pay $20 each so we can do a group Halloween costume for our company party. Um, no thanks - I'll pass.

ARGH -anyone else work at a place like this??? Vent over. Thanks for listening.

Re: Vent: my co-workers are constantly spending $

  • I could have written the same thing!  DH and I are on a tight budget as well, so I rarely splurge and go to lunch, etc.

Our only difference is that I am a cheapskate.  LOL

  • Loading the player...
  • Honestly, stuff like that doesn't bother me, except... when the same people then complain about not having money.
  • When I was in the military the whole squadron would go out for lunch whenever anyone moved.  Considering how often people in the military move, we would all go out for lunch multiple times a month.  I didn't mind at the time since I was young and not married yet, but some people did get a little peeved about it (understandably).

Then when I got married and got out of the military, I worked for a defense contractor, so I didn't work with very many females.  Many of my coworkers went out to eat a lot, bought lots of electronics, etc., but it made me feel pretty smart for sticking to a budget.  I tried to look ahead a few years.

That would be really annoying to be hit up to buy things at work, though.  It seems like a lot of employers used to have rules against that, but it seems like that really isn't the case many places anymore.
