Well, with the absolutely obsene crying fit that ensued last night after putting on agreed upon Witch costume, you would have thought I was ruining her life.
It's Halloween, it's a fun holidy for little kids. I can't be the jerk mom that MAKES her wear something she's uncomfortable in. At least I was able to return the 1st costume.
So now she wants to be a black cat like her older sister. Fine, whatever. Party city + $9.99 = done. It's just annoying.
I guess I should clarify.....my dd has tactile issues. Probably needs OT, but I try to manage on my own. The first costume was Ariel. It itched. I returned it. Second costume was a witch, she tried it on and loved it. Well we had a Halloween function last night and after she had it on for all of 2.2 seconds she lost her marbles saying it hurt her.
good grief.
So anyway, I'm now onto my 3rd costume. She wants to be a black cat like her sister, so I'm buying her cat ears, which I guarantee will hurt her too. I'm frustrated is all.

I must be a mean mother because there is no way in hell I would put up with that. Sorry JMO. I don't give in to tantrums.

My daughter complains about most costumes being itchy and hurting her, but she loves wearing them. We just put a layer of cotton between her and the costume. A shirt underneath the top, and leggings or a slip under the skirt portion. Is that an option for you?

Totally off topic but you know your kid has sensory issues, and know she needs an OT but you are doing it yourself? Are you an OT? It is a FREE service through your school district. Sensory disorders can make kids lives a living hell, please get your DD the help or at least intake she deserves.
Definitely look into OT. My DS has sensory processing issues and we did a lot for him once we found out just by doing research online, talking to his teachers, etc.. It helped quite a bit. Once he got evaluated by an OT that helped even more since she was able to give us more suggestions just based on spending a couple hours with him.
But he just started OT through the school district three weeks ago and I seriously cannot even describe how much more helpful that's been. Having the OT actually work with him for greater lengths of time and give us recommendations tailored to his individual needs has been invaluable.

Mine couldn't decide, so I thought I'd just buy her Tinkerbell since she said no to Jessie and a few other things I suggested. Turns out she did want to be Jessie, but I'm making her wear a cowgirl costume I had to buy for her school concert last year. I keep asking about Tinkerbell and she's not biting. Hey, at least they have a few extra items for dress up now, huh?
DD freaked about her costume too (Little Red Riding Hood). She didn't complain about it the store and I stupidly threw out the package the following week. We try it on and it's a total meltdown. So itchy! Tough luck DD, if you want candy...you have to wear the costume. It was $25, so wear it.

this. I pull my line that I am the boss and she's wearing it.
We also used the "once we buy it, there's no changing your mind" rule.
He tried to say he wanted to get something else, but that was shot down pretty quickly.
