Cloth Diapering

Gifted CDs

So a friend gave me about 6 size 1 Kissaluvs and 8 Cricketts (another fitted). [Secondhand. They were hers.]

I bought 3 covers. 1 Thirsties (size 1) and 2 that are super similar but aren't Thirsties.

What, if anything, should I add to the stash?

And any recommendations for how I should wash them to prepare? (As in, should I strip them or just wash them regularly?)

Re: Gifted CDs

  • Are you planning to CD from birth?  If so, you need nb/xs diapers.  Kissaluvs size 1 will be too big.  I don't know what size the Cricketts are.

The number of diapers you'll need depends on how often you plan to wash.  I have 30 nb diapers and six covers and I wash every other day.  I wouldn't go much less than that for the nb stage.

As for prepping, are the diapers used?  If so, they don't need to be prepped; just washed.  Otherwise, natural-fiber diapers usually need to be washed 5-6 times on hot to improve their absorbency before use.

  • I cloth diapered my newborn with only 18 prefolds, 2 PUL covers, and 1 wool soaker. We did laundry everyday, but it worked out fine for us. I don't think you need a huge stash in order to make it work...

  • but I agree with PP that you will need kissaluv 0 or something smaller for a newborn

  • I was thinking of just using 7th gen disposable till baby hits 10 lbs or so. (The weight my friend started using them.) They are used, yes.

But I love the little Kissaluvs, so maybe I'll just get a few size 0s and do both for newborn? Is it annoying to do both?

I did both for a little bit until I felt comfortable with prefolds in the middle of the night... I didn't find it annoying at all
