Where to live - near Hoffman Estates

Hi All!

I grew up in Evanston, and while I know quite a bit about Chicagoland in general, I know next to nothing about Hoffman Estates and the surrounding areas, with the exception of knowing that Woodfield Mall is nearby.  A good friend of mine will be moving there next month, and she was hoping I had info for her.  I have nothing! 

Any info/rec's on places/areas to live within a 30 minute commute to Hoffman Estates would be greatly appreciated - also if you know of any good schools/doctors, etc, I'd love that info too.  She's got two girls, ages 2 and 5 (preschool).

Hmm - so much of that depends on price range, but I grew up nearby, so here's my 2 cents: I would go for wherever the best schools are. As you know, many of the suburbs have excellent public schools. In the NW suburbs, I'm partial to the Barrington schools (because I went to high school there), but I think the Fremd district is also good. I would tell her to do research on that.

As for Barrington schools, if that works for the price range your friend is looking in - best deal is to try to find a home in Cook County in the school district. Some of Hoffman Estates is in that district, which is a good balance.

Of course, my knowledge is based on what I knew over 15 years ago when I actually lived in Barrington (I live in the city now) and is probably best-considered to be at the level of a high schooler.
