Halloween Costume help needed...asap!

Will was going to be a boxer from Halloween. Bought the costume from Party City and just tried it on him yesterday. It was ridiculously huge - there was no way we could even try to fake it and make it fit him. Took it back and they're pretty much sold out of everything that I think he'd tolerate. He hates things on his head, so we really can't do any of the cute animals.

So we need a costume ASAP. I really wanted him to be a "kissing booth" (cardboard box with straps and a hole cut out in the middle, spray painted red, w/ white writing that said "kisses 5 cents," then plaster red lipstick kisses all over his face). DH vetoed it. I cannot think of anything else that we can either buy relatively inexpensively or make. If we can't agree to something by tomorrow, I'm doing the kissing booth idea and he can deal with it.

Any one have ideas they care to share?

  • Kate's going to be a bumblebee.  I have some strips of leftover yellow felt if you want them.  Just stitch them or glue them onto a black t-shirt and spray paint some wings black.  Kate's sporting a tutu, but something tells me that's not Will's style.  :)

BTW- I think the kissing booth idea is adorable.

  • Thank you guys! I love that spider - too cute! I'll see what DH thinks :)

Christina - where did you find a wing template? I could do the no-sew stripes pretty easily, I think, too...I love the kissing booth idea too. I saw it on a website and fell in love, but DH wants him to be something more manly. Like a boxer. Or Darth Vadar. We obviously have different tastes, lol.

  • My grandmother found some fairy wings at the dollar store and I asked DH to spray paint them black.  He ended up trying to do something much more complicated and breaking them before buying some butterfly wings and spray painting them black.  I actually think that the ones from the dollar store were cuter.

  • What about Charlie Brown? Yellow shirt with a black line drawn on with sports shorts and a football to carry around. If he will let you, draw a curly cue on his forehead with eyeliner. The other characters aren't too hard either if you want to match him.
  • He could be a crayon, weatherman, sushi, octopus *these were really cute on the Parents.com website*

Here is a link to an at home boxer costume https://familyfun.go.com/halloween/halloween-kids-costumes/boys-halloween-costumes/boxers-662631/

The bearded gnome is adorable too! https://familyfun.go.com/halloween/halloween-kids-costumes/boys-halloween-costumes/little-bearded-gnome-674561/

  • Charlie Brown? Get a yellow shirt and felt or marker a black zig zag on it.

edit: I just saw someone else suggested this before I read it... great minds... ;)

  • we have an extra train conductor hat you are more than welcome to borrow- just pair it with denim overalls, and a red bandana.  S is going as one too and it is cuuuute!
  • Sam's has a bunch of cute costumes for $9.81 a peice.

Same here, and we have an extra hat too if you need it. Also, I fashioned DS's wagon into a train engine using cardboard boxes, spray paint and massive of amounts of duct tape. I don't have any pics of it yet, as I'll be putting the finishing touches on it today, but I'll snap some photos after that if you're interested. Also, you could probably make some bumble bee wings using wired hangers and black pantyhose if you want to go that route.
  • Mabye you could cut up an old sheet and wrap him up in a toga like Julius Caesar?  I'm thinking the only other thing you'd need would be some sort of gold braid to use as a belt or to tie at the shoulder.

I dunno, maybe not kid appropriate, but the idea of a tiny toga wearer makes me laugh!

  • Thank you guys so much for all the ideas! I'm going shopping today to see what I can come up with - contenders are UT football player (DH's fav, of course), octopus, and the kissing booth. I'm okay with all of the ideas, though I personally like the octopus the best :)

    Nesties rock!
