i am due in may and am very excited to CD! im just starting to get into the research, and am a bit overwhelmed...i definitely will use a lot of prefolds, mainly for the cost aspect, but which ones are the next cheapest? pockets with inserts? fitteds with covers?
also, are they all washed the same way, or do different diapers need different care?
thanks!!!!
Re: which is the next cheapest way to CD?
I think pockets would be the next cheapest option after prefolds because you don't have to buy the cover. A fitted diaper without the cover usually costs about the same as a pocket diaper. However, since you are doing prefolds, you will already have covers so then you could just buy some fitteds to use with those covers.
After prepping your diapers, everything can pretty much be washed together. When prepping you have to keep natural fibers together and synthetic fibers together.

This has some basic price ideas
And A LOT of useful information.
I browsed around this blog for a few weeks and really learned a lot. It's my go-to resource when I have a question.
cottonbabies.com makes econobum diapers, and they advertise that you can cloth diaper your baby from birth to potty training for just under 100$ total. I believe it's a system of prefolds +adjustable diaper covers. Not sure though.
1) buy used
2) buy discontinued
3) watch the deal-a-day sites (babyhalfoff, ecobabybuys, etc)
I've found many fitteds, pockets, and AIOs for $10-$12 this way. Granted some may not be my favorites, but they certainly work.
