Success after IF

When did you switch to three meals/bottles a day?

Right now we do three "meals" a day plus one bottle.

7:30 am - breakfast followed by bottle

11:00 am - lunch followed by bottle

2:30-3:00 pm - bottle only

5:30 pm - dinner, bath, bottle book, bed

I'd like to switch them to three meals/bottles a day.  Maybe 7:30 am 12 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., but I'm not sure when.  My thoughts are when they turn one, but I think I could do it now and they be fine. I'd love to hear any experience/advice.

ETA:  I'm sorry, I should have said that I do plan to give snacks mid-morning and afternoon.

TIA

Re: When did you switch to three meals/bottles a day?

  • We dropped the mid day bottle a few weeks ago. Here is DS's routine:

    6:00 wake up, morning bottle

7:30 Breakfast with sippy cup milk at daycare

11:30 Lunch with sippy cup of milk

2:30 - 3 snack with watered down juice

    5:30 - 6 - Dinner with watered down juice

    7 - 7:30 - night time bottle

We were at three meals a day by his first birthday, but he was still taking 4 bottles a day, we dropped the 4th bottle at 13 months and just dropped the third bottle.

  • Personally, I don't think three is ever enough while they're still growing.  DD has three meals but has snacks between them all.  At one year, she was still looking at 6-8 small "meals," whether nursing or solids.  Just my 2 cents -- 4-5 hours without eating is a LONG time!. :)

  • I don't see Caroline ever going that long without food.  She is whining/crying to nurse or have a meal/snack every 2 or 3 hours.

  • This is our schedule:

His bottles are 1/2 WCM and 1/2 formula - going all WCM in a week of two.

7:30 wake and 8 oz bottle

    8:30 breakfast with water

    10:30 - 12/12:30 Nap

    12 lunch with water

    2:30 8 oz bottle

    3:30/4 - 5 Nap

    6 Dinner with water

7:30 8 oz bottle and bed

I was giving a snack after his afternoon nap but he wasn't very hungry for dinner.  I may start giving a small one before morning nap. We also hope to replace 2:30 bottle with a sippy of WCM and then work on the morning and night, hopefully by 1.
