When you're telling your child what horses "say", do you use "neigh" or an alternative word/sound?
We make a clucking noise with our tongue on the roof of our mouths. After a recent convo., I'm thinking this might just be regional/part of my ethnic background.
Re: What sound does a horse make?
neigh- like "say"
That's what I think. I've always done both neigh and the tongue clicking. Everyone thought I was crazy when I taught DD1 the tongue clicking for horse, but that's what I've always known!
FWIW, I'm originally from Belgium and that's what my parents taught us... well, that and "heee heeee" instead of "neigh"

Yay! Someone else does this. I've never heard of "hee hee", but I guess the clucking is supposed to sound like a horse walking/galloping on a hard surface. There are LOTS of horse and buggies around here.
Aw, that's cute.
I've never heard of doing this, but it sounds like the nickering sound that a pp mentioned.
Who knew there could be so many variations for one animal?
DH always looks at me like I have two heads because I love to make zebra sounds. Oh and as far as DD is concerned hippos moo. You can try and tell her otherwise but to her they moo. Cats say "Ow" dogs say "fffff" and almost everything else says "RAWR!!"
What does a zebra say? I need to know!

In our house they "neigh" as well. What can I say, we make up a lot as we go.
