EI provides parents with 55% of their pay, up to a maximum yearly salary of about $ 43 000, give or take. That works out to about $450 a week, and dependent on taxes, etc. it will be slightly less.
Some employers will give you a "maternity sick leave" if you have sick leave time saved up, which doesn't come from EI and can be as much as your full pay. I work for a school board which pays our first 6 weeks as a post-natal sick leave, after that, EI kicks in.
Some employers will even cover the difference between what EI pays out and your usual pay. One of my sister's in law received about 90% of her full pay for the year!
