prenatal yoga...

has anyone done it? did you noticed if it helped a lot during L and D? i would really like to go all natural, and i feel like this might be a great way to help with stretching and controlling my breathing.

Re: prenatal yoga...

  • This is our first, but I work in L and D and have noticed that women who have done it seem to labor and push better.  That was enough to convince me so I started going.  Have only been to a couple of classes so far but I really like it.  It definitely helps with stretching and breathing, and it stretches places that you don't normally think about but that will be used during labor.  I'm hoping to continue until delivery.
  • I did it.  I don't know that it helped with L&D but it did help with the excruciating back pain I had in 2nd and 3rd tri.

  • Hi,  I never went to any prenatal yoga classes but did do some yoga on my own just to relax and take time out for me, and to ensure I was at least "moving" and doing something good for my body.

Since then, I have discovered pilates.  I am not pregnant at the moment but when I do become pregnant again I am definitely going to continue to do pilates and take pre-natal pilates class.  It is a different discipline though, so if you really like yoga you may not be a pilates person so much.  The key, as with yoga, is to find an instructor you really like and can connect with, as well as knowlegeable.  Hope that helps, and good luck with the remainder of your pregnancy.

  • Yes I did it during my whole pregnancy.  I had a dvd from Shiva Rea.  I feel that it totally helped with my L and D.  I had a great labor and was up walking around 45 minutes later.  The breathing really helped too when it came to pushing and dealing with the harder contractions.
  • YES! I believe it helped me a great deal during my natural delivery on 5 counts:

    1. Breathing

    2. Ability for focus

    3. Ability to relax necessary muscles

    4. Body Awareness

    5. Prepared my body physically

It was still the hardest thing I ever did, but of course, it was totally worth it. :)
