Hey ladies! (basic info- 7 weeks, had u/s yesterday, 9-25)
I found out I have a slight infection, which I was told is common during pregnancy. I asked how to prevent it and my Dr. said other than the obvious things I already do (not taking baths, wearing cotton underwear, etc...) there's nothing I can do. It just happens. Bummer! Anyway, I have been experiencing bleeding since my first prenatal visit and have had 3 u/s to confirm everything is fine - and everything IS fine. But, it's been over a week and I'm still bleeding. I've read the infection can cause bleeding so I'm hoping the meds I was given will clear everything up.
my question is- has anyone experienced bleeding and an infection and been give metronidazole gel? Then, did you experience anything strange after using the gel? I'm now having clumpy blood (mainly dark brown- I'm sorry, TMI, I just want to be clear!). Anyone had this?
Re: Infection- using metronidazole gel question
First of all sorry about the infection. I had several with my first pregnancy and was given the same gel. I did not experience bleeding with my infection but I did experience some cottage cheese like discharge during the treatment. My biggest complaint from using the gel is that it always resulted in a yeast infection afterwards which also very common during pregnancy.
Good Luck hope you beat the infection soon.
I haven't had this during pg, but have used MetroGel way too often in the past. I had BV for almost a year straight several years ago, and had to use it repeatedly.
The cottage cheese discharge is common, and so if you're bleeding, it makes sense that it would be clumpy as well. Be sure to eat plenty of yogurt to help hold off a yeast infection as a result of this treatment.
