I know two Dashiels, 3 and 4 years old. I wouldn't have chosen it myself, but it suits them and it's grown on me. I actually think it fits with your other boys' names.
No. And it absolutely doesn't fit with your other sons' names.
Maybe Daniel?
No, we have a super-common last name and DH nixes everything generic. I love Joseph and William but he says absolutely not. Daniel would be the same. I'm trying to find something that's not going to be like John Smith without being weird, you know?
I adore Dashiell. I like the nn Dash too. Jenerally on 1st tri has a Dashiell.
LOL, I know. We were actually considering it for Clayton and then decided it was too "out there," and then when she used it and I was seeing it every day in her siggy, I started wishing we hadn't discounted it.
Ya know, I have really mixed feelings about this name. It has grown on me a little bit since I first saw it. Part of me loves it, but part of me thinks it's too comic-book-ish/The Incredibles and might not get taken seriously. That's why I agree with the pp who said it doesn't go with your other sons' names, since they're also not common but don't have that "fictional"/over-the-top kinda vibe.
At first I hated it, then said it out loud a couple times and now I kinda like it (although I think it sounds a little girlie) I do love Dash as a nickname though!

love LOVE it. my son has a boy in his class named Dash (that's his full name) and he is so cute and wears the name well. As for "matching" the other kids name in the family................it will match as soon as they are named. Way to much thought put into this. If you love it , then use it!
I have always liked this name (spelled Dashiell), but I don't know if I'd have the guts to use it. I think it goes great with Finn and Clayton though - you should use it!
Love Dashiell, but I'm biased as that is my 2 year old's name. We call him both his full name and the NN Dash. I think it works with your other sons' names too.
ETA: Funnily enough, we are actually considering Finn for #2. I like that they are both literary but in totally different ways.
I'm shocked by how many people like this name. I abhor it and think it sounds awful with your other sons' names (which are great). You have to be able to do better than this.

After thinking about it for a minute, I really like it. It's uncommon, but it actually has a really nice sound to it, and avoids a lot of the common pitfalls people run when picking more unusual names.
It doesn't sound like it's tied to any specific social class. You know how sometimes you here a name and it sounds really stuffy, or kind of lowbrow? Or too cookie-cutter suburban? I really don't get any of those vibes with Dashiel.
Also, although it's uncommon, it also seems like it could span a variety of occupations. I when considering names, I like to imagine my kid introducing himself or herself in a variety of situations. This one, again, just seems versatile enough.
I actually suggested it to my H when I was pregnant with Bean, but he nixed it...
I'm a big Thin Man fan (we have cats named Nick & Nora, Bean's name is Charles, and when it's time for a dog, her name will be Asta), so OF COURSE I love Dashiell!

Noooooooo

ETA: for anyone who doesn't know pronunciation of this name, it is Dash-yell (I say it more Da-shull). Not da-sheel.

I disagree with this. I think it actually goes great with Clayton and Finn.

And tell your husband William is not generic.

It's Dashiell, and I really like it.
