iMac ladies...How do I copy a DVD?

I am new to the Mac world and thought there would be a one click way to copy a dvd.  i've looked online and have found the 10 step process going through the Disk Utility but once I copy the DVD on the computer it says that the blank disk isn't big enough.  This is a completely blank disk.  Is it because it's copywrite protected? i was just trying this for the first time so chose my son's "Alvin and the Chipmunks" movie... There has got to be a way around this, right?  Can someone please help?  Also, I don't really want to take up space on my harddrive... is there a way to copy w/o keeping a copy on my harddrive?  i tried the "erase" option in disk utility, but is didn't seem to remove it.Thank you!!!!

Re: iMac ladies...How do I copy a DVD?

  • Are you sure you have a blank DVD and not a blank CD?

Some utilities will allow you to copy directly but you have to have 2 drives, one to read, and one to write.  Also, it's risky, as the buffer may fail and if the input feed isn't fast enough, it can ruin your blank disk.

  • Loading the player...
  • yes, i just bought a reel of brand new DVD+R and it says 4.7GB max on the disc 16x....
