TTC After a Loss

Can I safely take Advil during 2ww?

I usually swear off all drugs (OTC included) if I can avoid it, but I really need to get my knee feeling better and Advil has been suggested.

I O'd yesterday and am not willing to risk reducing the odds of fertilization or implantation.

Has anyone heard of any medical facts saying Advil (or other anti-inflammatory drugs) can possibly affect fertilization or implantation success?

TIA for any input.

Re: Can I safely take Advil during 2ww?

  • Advil, motrin - anything with ibuprofin is a blood thinner and you should not take during pregnancy or in the 2 ww.  At least I won't - I only take it when I get AF for cramps.  You can take Tylenol - that's all.  Hope your knee is better soon.

  • I would assume that it is okay, but... knowing what I know about advil I wouldn't risk it. I'd take tylenol if I were you.

And it's an anti inflammatory.  The TTC process we WANT the inflammation, (lining, ovaries, follies) so anti inflammatories are anti - TTC

  • My OB told me not to take ibuprofen while TTC.  That is pretty much the only thing she specifically told me to avoid.

  • My OB does a lot of research work and he said that there are recent studies that show that ibuprofen can deter implantation and ovulation.

  • It's been said already but opt for tylenol instead of ibuprofen (advil)
