Cloth Diapering

How do you know when you've used too much detergent?

I'm at my parents for the week and their water is very soft.  I brought my RnG to try since it didn't work well in our hard water at home....however how should I gauge how much to use?

  • If you use too much detergent your diapers may repel and/or start to have a very strong ammonia smell when your baby pees (not in the pail - that's fairly normal).

  • Follow the directions on the bag.  I used 3 tablespoons.
  • We have Hard Rock and I was following the instructions and using two scoops, but when I bought it I didn't factor in that we have a water softener.  So we were getting nasty ammonia stench that wouldn't go away whenever he peed, and I started using one tablespoon.  It made a world of difference.
