Cable/internet options? Only time warner?

I'm so fed up with time warner. I HATE that they make it impossible to cancel one service and just pay for the stuff you use. I just want a basic cable plan and internet.

But for only $10 month I might as well get the phone and the digital package or whatever they offer. Its so annoying. I have called all the time to try to reduce our bill or downgrade something and it feels like I am stuck paying the stupid $150 a month.

Does anyone do anything differently? Besides cutting cable completely?

  • We have Uverse. It's around $130 a month for TV and internet, and we have upgraded internet speed. We love Uverse for the ability to watch/record up to 4 shows at a time, though.

  • We use to have AT&T (Uverse) but DH works from home and is an internet "power user".  We would pay for ugraded speed, but didn't really get it.  We get better speeds with Time Warner without paying extra.  AT&T also gave us the run around about wanting a static IP address, blah, blah, blah.

Having said that, Uverse otherwise seemed fine and my sister has had a good experience with it.  So unless you are a heavy internet user, you shouldn't have a problem.

There is also Dish Network, but I HAVE heard about bad experiences with that.

  • We just switched from AT&T DSL to Time Warner Cable.  Uverse isn't available where we live, so we didn't have that option but I definitely would not recommend AT&T's standard DSL service.  It was really slow and pretty unreliable in our experience.  We've had Time Warner for only a few days now (upgraded to the Turbo or whatever it is) and are really, really happy with it.  I work from home so it's important to have really fast internet.  So, I guess that's a long way of saying I wouldn't switch from Time Warner to AT&T regular DSL.
  • We use Uverse and are pretty happy with it. We pay $110/month (went up from $105 recently) for cable and internet. I think we have 200 channels and no premium stations. Their on-demand videos suck, but redbox is cheaper anyway. :)
