Some of the responses below made me wonder? Do you mean that if you are TOT'ing on Sat night then you won't answer the door on Sunday? That seems odd to me? what am I missing.

Well I have never heard of trick or treating on a day besides actual Halloween. So I guess I would be surprised if someone showed up on Saturday night. But if we were home and had candy I would still hand it out. I just think it is super weird to go on a day besides the actual holiday.
TOT here is Sunday, so if someone comes to my door Saturday, they are out of luck. I'm not just handing out candy all weekend. Maybe I'm missing what you're asking?
We have a Halloween Party on Sat night so if kids come knocking they will not get anything...we will not be home. Trick or treating is suppose to be on Halloween and the kids around here only go to houses with the porch lights on so if a parent tries to let their kid come Saturday I really don't think anyone would be ready for the kids.
I can obviously understand if you're not there. I just can't imagine telling a kid to go eff b/c it's the 'wrong' day. idk. it's weird to me. but we never run out of candy (we don't get a lot of people). maybe i just can't relate.

Don't you think it is weird for someone just to take a child toting on a day other than halloween. Holidays are set dates, we don't just randomly pick when to celebrate them. If it is a whole town thing I get that, but if not, then do it on the day you are suposed to.

I don't understand why this is even an issue. Halloween is the 31st why would you allow your kid to get dressed up and bang on people's doors when it isn't even the holiday? That is weird to me!
We dont answer our door unless we know someone is comming over so the door wont get opened. I do peek out the window in case its the guy from across the street or something but I dont answer our door for people I dont know. Even if they came sunday im not sure if many people would come to our house our pouch light is broken right now and people wont come up to the door if the light is not on and dh wont be home this weekend to fix it.

Our county (not sure who) sets the date for TOT. It is rarely on Halloween. Usually a Thursday night. This year it is the 28th. If someone came to my house on Halloween, it would just be weird. And I definitely wouldn't have any candy. We get so many TOTers that we usually run out around 7:30. TOT is from 6-8 p.m.
Our town has a set TOT day and time. This year it's Saturday from 6-8pm. I always thought it was weird that it wasn't on Halloween night. I grew up in a small town, and TOT was on Halloween whenever it got dark. I'd still give out candy on Sunday if there was any left.

Any time a child came to my door, dressed up, and asked for candy by saying trick or treat, I would give them candy...if I had it! But I am a liberal and thus am fond of hand outs. ;-)
If kids come to my door on Saturday night, I will be irritated. I am having a dinner party and don't want to be answering the door. I am having a bonfire on Sunday and will have 40-50 people over for chili, so that is when I was planning to hand out candy. I don't get moving Halloween. If you are worried your kid will be too tired for school, take them earlier.
We shop on Sunday mornings, and haven't bought our candy yet. We hardly get anyone anyway - we live on a steep hill and don't have sidewalks. There are a few pixie stix in the cupboard if we get desperate. We will not have our light on Sat night. For some of Sun night, either, because we will be TOTing.
I once had a kid knock on my door for ToT in April. He was decked out in a full costume too. When I pointed out it wasn't Halloween, he said he could do anything he wanted. It was so strange.
Halloween is not a 3 day long holiday. It's one night. That night is Oct 31. That is when I will expect TOTers.
Unless your town designates some other day for TOTing (which is just plain strange to me), I cant fathom who would take their kids TOTing when no one will be expecting them.
Re: Wait - why would people be 'out of luck' if they TOT'd a different night?

This made me lol.
Halloween is Halloween. October 31st.
Maybe we should change Christmas to June so everyone can have their tax money?
I just spit my water!

I don't buy candy until Halloween morning so they would definitely be out of luck at my house.
Ditto!
