Someone explain Lalaloopsy dolls to me

My daughter has been asking for one, and for her bday, my sister got her one.  I had never seen one in person, only on the commercial.  For some reason (I think it was the button eyes?), I thought they were fabric?  But that big plastic head, the little body that can't support the big head, and the fact that it's just weird looking?  I don't get it!  My DD seems like like it well enough, but, I have no idea why these things are popular.  What am I missing?

Re: Someone explain Lalaloopsy dolls to me

  • They're popular because who ever wrote the jingle/commercials is a master at marketing to children, and NickJr and Disney help them along by putting the commercial on every 15 minutes.

  • I had to Google. I watched the commercial on Walmart.com. I don't see what the hype is. I guess it's just a moneymaker . . . out in time for Xmas.
  • They remind of the characters in Coraline. This is one of those times where I'm glad I don't have a girl.
  • Daily, I have said from the beginning that they remind me of Sally form Nightmare Before Christmas.  Freaky dark eyes and all. But dd loves them!
