Cloth Diapering

what do you do re: one new item to be prepped

do you wash and dry that one item? seems like a lot to do a 'whole load' for one item.  is that just the way it is?

so, i'm in the process of ordering many diapers from different websites.  they will all arrive at different times, but if i can consolidate, do i just wash all organic, hemp and bamboo in one load and regular cotton, poly, microfiber, etc. in another?

thanks.

Re: what do you do re: one new item to be prepped

  • When I have one or 2 items, I just throw them in with my dirty diapers for a couple of washes and am done with it. If its just inserts (no PUL) then you can boil the inserts to prep and remove oils. If you're waiting on several natural fiber diapers, you might as well wait until they all arrive and prep those together (separate from your synthetics, of course).

  • Usually when I get a new diaper I just add it to my normal diaper wash.  I also usually wash most fabrics together (except for wool of course).  Prefolds I've done separately though since they need more prep.

  • I just toss it in with my laundry and wash when i do the next load. Usually the same day since I am impatient.  Prefolds I do separately.  Most of the diapers I have bought recently have been used so no prepping necessary. Just a wash and dry.

  • I actually threw a few of my kissaluvs in with a load of towels and just used our cd detergent instead of our regular detergent.

  • Probably not the best idea but when I only have one diaper I just throw it in the pail and wash it a few times with my normal diaper laundry, no matter what kind of diaper it is.  I know supposedly there can be problems with oils etc but I have never had issues doing it that way.  If I have several diapers to prep I wash them separately though just in case.
