Anyone here with a cerclage?

Just wondering when it was put in and how it is going so far? I'm probably going to have to get one with this baby and wanted some info. Thanks!

Re: Anyone here with a cerclage?

  • I got one at 13 weeks. Had some cramping and discomfort for almost 2 weeks after, but I'm almost 19 weeks now and am doing great. I get weekly u/s for cervical length and everything is holding up as it should. Good luck.

  • Had mine put in at 11 weeks.  Was crampy and sore for about 4 days.  I get mine out next week (will be 36 weeks 4 days)!  Every US showed that it was holding and that my length looked good.
  • I had one put in at 20 weeks due to a dynamic and short cervix.  I got bi weekly ultrasounds, which measured my cervix at a steady 1.7cm all the way through.  I spotted and cramped the first day and was told to take it easy the rest of my pregnancy.  The cerclage was removed at 37 weeks and here I am, 39 weeks tomorrow and still very pregnant!  The removal wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be- the worst part was the speculum!

  • Had mine put in at 18 weeks, had it take out today!!! (YEA!) I spotted for a day or 2 after getting it put in. I had u/s every 2 weeks to check length and it was steady. I say it worked for me!!
  • Had mine done at 23 weeks (1.7cm the day before cerclage and 1cm dilated the day of) and have been holding strong at 2.5cm since then.  Good luck!
  • I had one placed at 17 weeks, my cervix was at 1.8. I was on bedrest for about 3-4 days after, just to heal up. I just had it removed a week ago at 36w 1d...and she's doing great. I'm 1 cm 75% effaced as of today. I would agree that the cerclage saved our little one!

I was on pelvic rest for about 5 months... (no sex). But it's well worth it!

  • I had a loss at 18 weeks due to incompetent cervix.  After doing much research I decided to have the transabdominal cerclage placed at 11 weeks pregnant.  It's permanent so I will require a c-section.  It has a 97% success rate, compared to the 60-70% success rate of the transvaginal cerclage (the kind that is removed around 36 weeks).  After the cerclage was placed I had an ultrasound done to show me where it is.  It's placed at the top of the cervix so it doesn't allow for any shortening, funneling, effacing, etc.  The dr showed me that the bottom part of my cervix is already open so if I would have gotten the transvaginal cerclage it most likely would have failed and I would have another late loss.  I'm so glad I decided to get the abdominal one!
