Diaper Rash vs. Yeast Infection: How to know?

Help!!  My 4 month old baby got over a nasty diaper rash that she got from having diarrhea for almost 2 weeks.  We used A & D ointment which really helped.  While we were at the dr. when she had it, dr. said it should go away when the diarrhea does.  Well it did.  Yay!

Then a few days later, she got a worse rash that keeps getting worse.  The diarrhea didn't come back and we are not doing anything differently.  Well I guess we went from Huggies Natural Care wipes to Huggies Sensitive wipes.  But you wouldn't think that would do it, right?!  I remember getting the Sensitive ones while she still had the first rash.  It also looks different than the last rash.  There is more of a texture with this one.  Not really bumps, but the last one was still smooth but really red.  I let her lay for a while with no diaper to air it out and all that, just like before.  This seems to be spreading and worsening rather than healing.  I am starting to think this is a yeast infection but I really don't know how to tell.  Any help would be very appreciated.

  • That sounds like a yeast infection. One of my older daughters had one when she was a baby and it start to look more like little blisters on her bottom . It scared the crap out of me when I saw it . All the ped had use do was rub some cream on it instead of diaper rash ointment . The same cream you by over the counter that you would use yourself if you had yeast infection .

THIS ASAP. Before it gets to the point where she is screaming in pain from having the diaper on her and you're not able to console her.

Yep, this.  You yourself I'm sure know how uncomfortable a yeast infection is. GL
